We all notice the curve-shape whitish area on the fingernail’s but have you ever wondered what is their importance? Those who have it should know that it is very sensitive as it plays an important role in your overall health. Make it sure that you don’t damage it.
This curve-shape structure is called lunula (Latin for small moon) it is actually the root or base of the nail’s. If you accidentally damage it chances are that your entire nail could be permanently damaged.  However, if you just damage the rest of the nail the lunula will remain intact at its place. One of the interesting fact of lunula is that it looks white in colour although originally it is not white; it only looks like that when seen through the nail.

It’s clearly visible on the thumb but not everyone’s lunula is visible. In some cases, the thick layer of skin surrounding fingernails and toenails, may partially or completely cover the lunula.

According to traditional medicine, the lunula can easily explain some very important information about a person’s overall health. The lunula usually tells the disease of a person in the form of disappearing crescent or color change. According to traditional Chinese medicine if your lunula has reddish smudges you may experience cardiovascular problems while a pale or bluish lunula indicates possible diabetes.

A really small lunula usually indicates indigestion as a result of a slow metabolism and toxin overload in the body. Whereas a lack of lunula is linked to anemia and malnutrition.
